Second, put together a detailed list of all contents and features of home. If you have photos of these items, find them, it will be helpful.
Third, have patience. Insurance companies prioritize claims depending on severity. If your home has suffered minor damage, it will probably take more time to complete your needs.
Fourth, conduct temperory repairs to your property and save your receipts.
Fifth, choose a contractor. Beward wary of contractors and use only licensed or bonded ones and check references. To verify a contractor's license and for more contractor information, go to www.cslb.ca.gov.
Sixth, if you have a morgage, your bank's name may be included on the settlement check. Be sure to contact lenders about mortgage relief programs.
And lastly, as of Thursday, October 25, FEMA announced that San Diego residents who sustained losses in the fires could apply for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. To apply for FEMA Assistance please contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency by calling (800) 621-FEMA or online at www.fema.gov.
